Welcome to psychology with Brandon Kayat

Accessible and flexible in-person or online psychology sessions in Durban North to suit your needs.

About me:

My name is Brandon Kayat, a registered Clinical Psychologist in Durban, South Africa. With a Masters of Social Science in Clinical Psychology, I bring a wealth of expertise to my services in Durban as an in-person or online psychologist.

My professional journey includes completing internships at the King Dinuzulu Hospital Complex and King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban where I worked under the Department of Health. I completed my community service at Pietermaritzburg Medium A Correctional Centre where I worked with male offenders during their incarceration. As a male psychologist, I found this work incredibly insightful into the issues surrounding male mental health.

In addition, I've worked during several years in supporting vulnerable youths in KwaMashu and Wentworth. In addition, I've served as a trauma counselor with the North Durban Victim Support team (NDVST) and still continue to serve as a member of the Durban North Community Policing Forum (CPF).

Man with depression needing mental health care

How can I help you?

I offer comprehensive support for a wide array of conditions, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, anger and impulse management, couples therapy, ADHD, autism, gender or sexual concerns, substance abuse and more. My interest also encompasses dream analysis and interpretation, African Psychology and men's mental health. Although I am primarily an online psychologist, I do offer face-to-face psychotherapy (subject to availability). My holistic therapeutic approach aims to create a balanced mind-body-spirit alignment and connection to enhance overall well-being. Clients ranging from adolescence to late adulthood can benefit from my services. My practice proudly embraces gender-affirming therapy, ensuring a safe and supportive space for all.

A Focus on Holistic Mental Health care:

I am committed to fostering holistic healthcare that aligns the mind, body, and spirit. My passion and interests extend to several areas of psychology, including my work in African Psychology as seen in my dissertation Towards an Applied African Psychology in South Africa: A Scoping Review. I presented this at the PSYSSA conference in 2022.

Online therapy might not be suitable for individuals who lack a quiet, interruption-free space; reliable video conferencing technology; who are experiencing severe psychiatric conditions or crises; who require psychological support for legal matters or for children under the age of 12. Please feel free to enquire about my face-to-face sessions in Durban North if this is preferable.
